May, 2015 – The Royal Military Tattoo is a unique blend of music, ceremony, entertainment and theatre set against the magnificent backdrop of Edinburgh Castle. At the heart of every Tattoo's universal appeal is the stirring sight and sound of the massed pipes and drums from Scotland's famous regiments. But the Tattoo is not just a Scottish show, nor is it confined to music. Over the years it has presented a whole host of international performers – military and civilian- from countries across the globe. Bands of all sizes and description have been joined along with dancers, steel bands, flag-wavers, drill teams, Zulus, camels, elephants, cavalry, motorcyclists and a contortionist. The Tattoo has a massive organization, with a cast of 1,200 people and hundreds behind the scenes. When the association was set up 65 years ago they were determined to make sure as many people possible had the opportunity to access the show. Now they have a yearly audience of 200,000 and through television reach 100 million viewers worldwide. The Tattoo has an exceptional ability to bring a performance that interests a huge audience and shows no sign of diminishing. "It has a touch of something for everyone whether you are 8 or 80 years of age,” stated Alan Smith, Marketing Manager at The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

The theme of the performance will be "East Meets West” celebrating people of both sides of the world colliding. 70-piece Citadel Regimental Band and Pipes from one of the most popular military college marching bands in the United States will be traveling to Scotland all the way from Charleston, South Carolina. Also included will be an exciting appearance by the Royal Air Force, which is set to observe the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain in 2015. This years performance has drawn in talent from 5 different continents and is expected to delight the audiences all throughout the month of August.

What many people don't know about the Tattoo is each year a substantial proportion of the funds are distributed to charitable arts and services of benevolent organizations.
